Congo In Harlem Launched

This year's Congo in Harlem has just launched! As you may know, the series presents a diverse program of films, art and discussion about the Democratic Republic of Congo with a focus on Congolese makers.

Nelson and I have been programming the series since it began in 2009 at the Maysles Cinema and this year we are thrilled to be able to offer the entire series for free and available online! It is a great opportunity to share this unique lineup of film and art to a bigger audience than ever before.

We hope you can check out some of the films and events and help spread the word to your friends world-wide. Some highlights:

A Special Panel Discussion "The Impact of Belgian Colonization on the Congo" with Adam Hochschild (Author, King Leopold's Ghost) and Princess Esmeralda of the Belgian Royal Family, among other speakers.

A Sneak Preview  of the documentary feature, Downstream to Kinshasa, the first film by a Congolese filmmaker to be selected by the Cannes Film Festival.

Three programs of short films including documentary, fiction and animated films, almost all by Congolese directors.

Thank you and we hope you enjoy the program.

By Lynn True.
